As a coal mining company, Kideco recognizes the importance of respecting Indigenous Peoples. As a first step, Kideco conducts Screening to understand their presence in the operational area.

Following the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues guidelines, Indigenous People’s Criteria include individual self-identification and historical continuity with pre-colonial eras.

The Screening of Indigenous People involves:

  1. Identifying Indigenous Paser communities in the operational area.
  2. Mapping the locations of Indigenous Paser settlements in the operational area.
  3. Assessing the sustainability of their social systems and customs.

This study serves as Kideco’s initial step in understanding the presence of Indigenous Peoples in its operational area.
